    FAQ’s

What can I expect on my first visit?
We tell our first time patients to arrive a full 10 minutes early in order for them to complete some recordkeeping information which will include some data about themselves, their employer, their spouse, information about their insurance coverage (primary and secondary, if any), who to contact in the event of an emergency, and some information about their medical and dental history.  Also, we ask that first time patients bring their dental insurance cards with them (not their medical insurance cards) so we can properly bill out services for the convenience of the patient.

What if I have a problem such that I think it is an emergency?
We typically reserve time daily in order to allow us to promptly see emergency patients.  By contacting our office as early in the day as possible, we can make a determination of the urgency of the problem you face and schedule you accordingly.  Remember, your comfort is our first concern!  If you should have an after office hours emergency, please call us anyway, as our answering machine will provide you with Dr. Lakatos’ home or cell telephone number.  Remember, for your comfort and convenience, Dr. Lakatos is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The dentist I had been seeing is very difficult to schedule an appointment with.  How difficult is it to schedule an appointment with Dr. Lakatos?
We devote a lot of effort in order to see patients immediately if that is their wish, whether it’s for an exam or a cleaning.  We believe we have the staff and have designed a schedule that makes it convenient for the patient to see us in a timely fashion.  Our scheduler will work around your work or school schedule as much as possible.  Our state-of-the-art computer scheduling software minimizes waiting time and improves our efficiency and scheduling flexibility.  We also accommodate family appointments so as to make it as convenient as possible to have several family members get treated in the same morning or afternoon.

I have dentures and wondered if I should get them checked periodically?                                                                                                        You should be aware that your mouth changes shape over time, but dentures do not, which means that the fit may change and cause discomfort.  Even chewing and speaking may be adversely affected.  Some patients even accidentally damage their dentures or even wear down their chewing surfaces.  Whatever the cause may be, a poorly fitting set of dentures may not only be uncomfortable, but can lead to other oral health problems.  We recommend you have your dentures and mouth examined annually, and sooner if you notice changes in chewing, swallowing or speaking.  And a word to the wise, never try to fix dentures yourself, as you can do permanent damage to them and quite possibly worsen the problem.
